Staying in a major city is always a bit more of a challenge; the prices are higher and the amenities lower, compared to smaller towns. I can't fault our room - everything worked and it was very quiet - but the location was a slight disappointment. The square was perhaps the ugliest square in Madrid, with lots of weird 'portable'... more

This hotel was one of our favorites! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful; the rooms were immaculate; the location was perfect, with sites at your footsteps. Let me add that I am not easily impressed, but this hotel really did impress me. As for the reviews that there are homeless people outside, there was not even a single one... more

We arrived straight from the plane from the U.S. and were pleased to find that our room was ready at 10 A.M.! The staff was quite nice and accommodating but the room was so small we had to stash some bags under the bed and only one of us could move around the room at one time. The room overlooked... more

The hotel is in a good location, meaning it's about 2 blocks from the main shopping promenade and a few hundred yards from a big department store (ingles cortes). however, the very spot it is on -- the plaze -- IS filled with bums who sit, eat, sleep there. And urinate. We had a balcony overlooking the plaza and one... more

This hotel is in an excellent location - merealy a 2 minute stroll to the hustle and bustle of the streets of Madrid. The hotel is about a 20-25 minute taxi drive from the airport but it gives you time to take in the sights. The hotel itself was old-worldy. Everything was spotless and very comfortable. We had a balcony... more

We just enjoyed 3 nights in this quiet, clean , very centrally located hotel. Good sized room, fabulous breakfast. Helpful staff. The vagrants to the right were a bit off putting but never hassled us- and there were beggars across Madrid but we didnt find them pushy. The ' pied piper' played his tunes a bit at teatime but importantly... more

Stayed here over new year. Location is very good indeed, but the rooms leave a little to be desired. In my room the roomsafe didn't work, nor did the pay TV. Also, on 30 December at around 12.30 midnight, Reception phoned me 3 times telling me the Doctor (?) had turned up for me, and then came to the room... more

great central location for a very nice hotel. We found vagrants sleeping outside the hotel and in the open area opposite but did not think it was any worse than the other areas we visited in Madrid, and all I can say is the Madrellanas have a very relaxed attitude to them and I found them non threatening. I stayed... more

This hotel is in a great location. The rooms were clean, but we were traveling with 3 other couples with 4 rooms and 4 of us in 2 rooms ended up with bug bites all over our ankles. We wondered if they came from our beds??? The staff was excellent, easy walk to the Palacio Real(eat at the Oriente Cafe... more

We were supposed to stay here at the beginning of our Spain trip. Taxi driver could only get us close. We had to walk a ways and ask for directions, then cross over some less than attractive front entry with homeless and dog poop. But we stayed upbeat...until they were unable to get us a room due to water damage.... more
