On sheer beauty of the building and rooms it's a 5-star rating, but some flaws popped up. 1) The walls are THIN. If your neighbor gets a 6:30am wakeup call you're waking up too. Or if the person above you starts walking around - you're going to hear the squeaking. 2) The rooms adjoining the building next door are right... more

There are many things to love about the Hay Adams. It has a terrific location, just a block away from the White House. It is a throwback in time with its clubby bar and old wood check in desk. The staff are quick to greet you and to offer you assistance. The restaurant is lovely. Ultimately though, it comes down... more

We stayed here three times for fun during different seasons. The views of St. John's Church and the White House are very nice, as are the rooms. The office-building-view room was cramped. The service was friendly, efficient and happily not stuffy. Sunday brunch was costly but excellent - nearly as nice as the one at the Four Seasons. Sat next... more

I stayed here in February, 2007 with my mother. Thoughts: Specifics: Three nights, junior suite with a full White House view. Check-in: Granted it was a Friday afternoon, but I found it a little rushed and hectic. I had to remind one of the staff which bags were ours. My name was also mispelled on the board our driver held... more

After reading some reviews, we decided to give the Hay Adams a try for our first stay in DC and were so glad we did. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised with a room upgrade to a suite which was nice. The staff was always the most courteous and constantly offering water and cookies. At night we returned to... more

I don't understand the hype about this hotel. This is, after all, a five star hotel and you pay a consicerable price for your room, so you can expect a certain level of comfort. The rooms are nice, especially those with the fireplaces. The staff was friendly all right but not very professional. Any additional request was met by a... more

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights beginning August 2, 2008. We had two connecting rooms. One with a King Bed, the other with 2 doubles. We booked our room through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts programs which includes upgrades when space is avialble. This hotel was nearly empty during our stay and not only were we... more

Just spent 6 days at the Hay Adams. Stayed in suite facing Lafayette Park and allegedly the White House. Size. layout and furnishings of suite were fantastic, but adjoining room we also had was scary small. Because we were on lower floor , trees only allowed view of park and top of Wash. Monument. Staff and concierge were very helpful,... more

I stayed at the Hay Adams for a three day business trip. Below is my assessment-- Pros: 1. Price: I received a good rate--about $300/night booking through the hotel's website. You can generally get better rates in the summer when Congress slows down or goes into a recess period. Granted, I didn't have a room with a view of the... more

We were in town for college hunting for our son and some sight seeing on the side. We got a good- to-great rate ($309 per room for lovely, large connecting rooms) for five nights. I really want to love this hotel and make this my home away from home as my son is probably going to school in D.C. Positives:... more
