Yes, I was staying at the hotel during the night's blackout. I couldn't sleep because of the roar of the hotel's own power generator, below my window. I checked out at 4:00 am, and got a $200 refund on my room rate. I went to the airport to fly back to Cal. My daughter, living in Oahu, phoned my cell... more

After reading some of the negative reviews for this property, I am convinced some people are just too hard to please. We spent three nights here on the way back to Seattle from Sydney with a 4 and a 2 year old. We arrived at 8am after the overnight flight from Sydney, and were not surprised to find out our... more

Our family has been going to Waikiki since 1989 for the Honolulu Marathon either to run or see our running friends. In the last few years, we were staying in the Royal Hawaiian Hotel (Pink Hotel) but due to renovations from July 2008 to Dec. 2008, they were closed. So we decided to try out a similar hotel, Moana Surfrider.... more

Don't stay at this hotel! Read this review and save yourself some aggravation by avoiding this hotel. The rooms are tiny. Upon check in we requested a roll away bed to be brought in for our son. The front desk employee (more on them later) gave us a surprised look and told us that she did not think it would... more

My husband and I returned to Waikiki to be reacquainted with the city and to introduce my 2 sons to the world famous landmark of Oahu. I chose to stay at the Moana Surfrider, a historical site, right in the heart of Waikiki so that we can take it all in. Our first impression was very positive. The valet and... more

We got a great rate because we are Hawaii residents. As expected, we got the lowest rated room, which is the city view room in the historic wing, which we didn't mind since we live on the island and didn't need an ocean view. However, we did not expect our view to be the balconies of the adjacent tower rooms.... more

After staying at the Westin in Maui, I was really looking forward to staying at the Westin property in Honolulu since I had heard so much about the hotel. After I ariving in my room and unpacking, I went to the bathroom and noticed a couple of small bugs crawling on the floor. I thought that this was quite unusual,... more

We stayed at the Moana Surfrider December 9, 2008 through the 14th and were delighted with our experience. If you want an elegant hotel with excellent service, attentive and responsive staff, world-class cuisine, beautiful architecture and an unbeatable location, you will love the Moana Surfrider. Upon reservation, I received a confirmation e-mail containing a “Westin Destination Club” link and an... more

There are a number of reasons why this hotel is a great place to stay in Waikiki. I must say upfront, it was great to get the customary lei when we arrived late from the east coast. The staff was always very welcoming and accommodating throughout our stay. First, the Surfrider is quite unique in architectural design and to me,... more

This was our third visit to the Moana Surfrider and everything was perfect. I wasn't in the best humor on arriving on a flight from the mainland that was 7 hours late, but being greeted with a smile and lei at the Moana's front desk, I began to relax. We were the only ones checking in because of the late... more
